Fundraiser for Crumlin Childrens Hospital
The Leaving Cert LCVP Students organised a fund raising activity for Crumlin Childrens Hospital. They took all the 1st and 2nd Year students to the Mattie McDonagh Centre where they provided them with numerous fun activities. The students paid €3 to take part in the activities or €2 to watch. They raised €200 which was donated to the giggle fund. Every day spent away from home, away from school, away from friends is a day too long for a sick child. However, for those children and their families who face many months of treatment and regular stays in Crumlin hospital, the giggle fund can help brighten their days. Through play specialists, clown doctors, supports for families, parties, high-tech toys, whatever it takes to support children who need the distraction and ability to just be children while they are facing long periods in hospital. Well done to all who took part and who organised the activity.
Fundraiser for Western Alzheimers and Cancer Care West
The 5th year LCVP Students organised a bag packing day in Dunnes Stores the week before Christmas and decided to donate the funds raised to Western Alzheimers and Cancer Care West. The students worked in teams of 4 for the whole day and managed to raise €1450, which they divided between the two charities. Cancer Care West were delighted to receive the funds which will be used in our region to provide practical and emotional supports and services to cancer patients and their families. Noeleen Rudden from Western Alzheimers visited the school and spoke with the students on the work they do. She explained how their donation would help ease the burden to those carers caring for loved ones who suffer the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Our 5th year LCVP students have just completed one week of work experience. We thank all local businesses for their cooperation in taking our students. Participation in the world of work enhances the relevant skills and career experience required in our ever-changing world.
